OUR BACKGROUND

How We Got Our Start     
   In January of 2019 Elisa decided to follow through on her vision for a U Pick Flower Farm.  Designing the garden, pouring over books and websites to learn more about gardening, taking soil samples and convincing her kids that it wasn't a silly idea, took quite a few months. Weekends and weeknights were spent preparing.  By March, 4k seedlings were under lights all kept in the laundry room, garage and kitchen! By the first of May the planting began.     The garden didn't turn out exactly as she hoped. There were failures and success but it was a great first year and she learned a lot...Most importantly, don't plant Dahlias bulbs before a monsoon!     Elisa enjoyed the task of arranging flowers and going to market to sell.  Visiting with folks was lots of fun and making new friends was definitely a highlight!     In September, Elisa added Fresh Christmas Greenery such as wreaths, swags and garland. Poinsettias and other plants also available to her offering for Holidays!      Additionally, to pair with her flowers, Elisa features Honadle's Fine Handmade Chocolates.  Available in gift boxes or even trays for your next party or event!       Get to know us! Brad Smith purchased the farm in 2016 with the idea to build his unique home incorporating the wood and tin roof of a local barn over 100 years old. Brad spent many years in the construction industry and has the talents and skills to create just about anything.  He has two children and loves to hunt turkey, mushrooms and especially ducks.           Elisa Fortney assists in the Special Education classroom at East Buchanan High School. She enjoys spending time with her five children as well as traveling, hiking, practicing guitar, cooking and tending to her chickens and dogs.  Her love of flowers has inspired her to create a space where family and friends can make wonderful memories together.
